This is an Investigation we do in Algebra 2 when first introduced to Exponential Functions. First we look at it in Standard Form and just look at the difference between Growth and Decay and the a-value being the y-intercept to start. Then we dive deeper into the Vertex Form. This is a foldable I use to first intro each parent function of linear, quadratic, and exponential functions. These are the three functions that most Algebra 1 curriculum need to know. I put it in function notation but I have the students add in the y instead of f(x) and we are going over it. The domain that I use for both is {-4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4}.

First school I taught at was Twin Spruce Junior High in Gillette, WY and they were put on AYP before I got there and I was part of a team that turned it around in one year and were off of it after three years. Second school I taught at was West Middle School in Liberal, KS and improved scores on Kansas State Assessments from 72% to 80% in one year. Then I taught at South Middle School in Liberal, KS were I was given all the students that did not pass the Kansas State Assessment the year before. At the end of the year, of my students, 57% passed the test and 84% improved their scores from the previous year.
