Mr. T was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the age of 4, and from the very beginning, he has been a unique and remarkable child. His infectious giggle as an infant could brighten anyone’s day—and it still does! As his Mama, I’ve been given the gift of seeing the world through his eyes, which often means embracing new perspectives, and sometimes even flipping my own upside down.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from Mr. T is the incredible passion and focus a young child can have for specific interests. These interests have become his bridge to the world, serving as powerful tools for learning and connection. While he has faced challenges grasping basic academic concepts since pre-K, I’ve discovered that weaving his favorite topics into his learning materials keeps him engaged and motivated. When I couldn’t find resources online that fit his unique needs, I started creating personalized worksheets, hands-on activities, and visual aids inspired by his love for maps, buildings, street signs, aircraft, and railroads. For example, I use map grids to teach coordinates in math or design language exercises featuring street signs and city layouts. These tailored resources not only capture his attention but also help him build a meaningful connection with foundational concepts.
Today, I hope to expand and share my passion for helping children, especially those with unique and specific needs. With the overwhelming amount of resources available online, it can be challenging to find something that feels "just right" for your child. As a parent, I understand how frustrating and discouraging this can be—I still face those moments myself. That’s why I’m here: to help create tailor-made materials that are engaging and meaningful for each child. When kids see the purpose behind what they’re learning, they can truly connect with it and grow.
Kids on the spectrum, as well as those with special needs, are, above all else, just kids—full of potential, curiosity, and wonder. Like all children, they deserve real and meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and explore in ways that celebrate their individuality. Unfortunately, traditional learning methods and materials often miss the mark, leaving many of these children feeling disconnected or overlooked.
My goal is to change that, one worksheet and one concept at a time, by embracing their unique perspectives. By building on their passions and strengths, I aim to make learning feel like an exciting adventure tailored just for them. Every child deserves the chance to experience the joy of learning, to uncover their hidden talents, and to thrive in their own extraordinary way.
