In this activity, students play a 24-question engaging and competitive board game to practice arithmetic operations on functions. During the game students use the following skills: Add, subtract, multiply and divide functions for f(x) and for numerical valuesComposition of functions for f(x) and for numerical valuesPerform any combination of the function operationsHow to Play: Students roll a die to determine which column to choose an operation to perform and how many points they earn. They per

This hands-on card sort helps students to solve polynomial equations and see the relationships between the roots, factors, and equations. Students solve six polynomials, sorting the cards into groups of five. Each group contains the following: polynomial in standard formDescartes' Rule of Signs chartpossible rational rootsfactors rootsStudents will use these cards as well as the Remainder and Factor Theorems, synthetic division, and factoring to solve each polynomial. Several options for differ

This 30 equation (15 functions and their inverses) matching activity allows students to practice finding the inverse of linear and quadratic functions. Many of the functions are similar, requiring students to pay attention to detail. This card sort activity can be used independently, in partners, or to make student groups. If you're looking for more inverse functions activities, be sure to check out my FREE resource: Inverse Functions Stations Activity!

This 10 question activity gets students up and moving around the room while they practice using the Remainder and Factor Theorems. Students will use synthetic division to practice evaluating functions and determining if a binomial is a factor of a polynomial. They will need to add in zeros when setting up several of the problems. Station 10 provides a challenge to deepen students' reasoning and understanding. A recording sheet and answer key is provided. My students are HUGE fans of stations.

About the store

Experience

I have 8 years of classroom teaching experience. I spent four years teaching 7th-grade math at a public middle school and four years teaching math at a private high school. I have taught 7th-grade math, AIG 7th grade, Algebra I, Algebra II, Honors Algebra II, and Advanced Functions and Modeling.

Teaching style

I want my students to understand math and therefore fall in love with it. I enjoy using card sorts, partner activities, and anything that gets my students talking about math, moving around the room, and thinking outside the box. I love using discussion in the math classroom. When planning lessons, I think of ways to get students asking the questions and guiding the lesson pace and thought process. My math activities are designed for students to engage with the math material and with each other.

My own education history

I had an amazing Algebra and Algebra II teacher who was also my high school cheer coach. She instilled in me a love of math and my desire to become a teacher. In college, I majored in Mathematics and Secondary Education.

Additional biographical information

I am a math-loving, Jeopardy-watching, Kansas-born girl in Charlotte, North Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy finding new walking trails, learning piano with my hubby, and spending time with friends.
