I have been a mathematics teacher for 33 years. I have taught PreAlgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, PreCalculus, Statistics, Calculus, and Consumer Math.
A great activity for a Consumer Math class or a class learning measurements. All measurements are given and students need to calculate areas, perimeters, and surface areas. They will also calculate costs. The overall project gives them a cost of a home remodel for specific areas.
"Build Your Own Dreamhouse" project incorporates students using real-world skills, including finding areas ad calculating costs. Students will design a house, then calculate costs for flooring, painting/wallpapering, determining amount and cost of fencing, and selecting furniture.

Calculate the odds of winning every prize in the Powerball lottery and the Megamillions lottery by using combinations. Determine the amount you will receive after taxes.
"Statistics Data Project" is an end-of-course project for a Statistics or Dual Enrollment Statistics class. Students will demonstrate their knowledge by applying many of the skills they learned in a first year statistics course.
"What Shape is Your Vacation" incorporates geometry shapes with calculating distances and cost of gas. Students will draw shapes between cities. They will then calculate the distance between each city and the cost of gas required to travel that distance.
"Where Should You Stay" Activity gives students the opportunity to research places to stay in a beach city of their choosing. Students will research costs of staying at condominiums, hotels, and houses, including calculating tax and parking fees.
Restaurant Specialist Activity gives students the opportunity to research restaurants in different states. They choose meals from each restaurant, then calculate the tax, tip, and total cost of the meals they choose.
This quick reference sheet guides students to identifying properties of functions, such as domain, range, asymptotes, intercepts, extrema, increasing/decreasing, plus more.
Applicable project for multiple grade levels and courses. Can be used in middle school math classes and also in a Consumer Math class. This activity gives students a hands-on experience to determining cost of traveling by car and plane to a destination.
Students will research costs related to traveling from one city to another. They will determine costs of driving, riding a bus, riding a train, and taking an airplane.
Create scatterplots, find regression equations, and calculate correlation coefficients to determine if there are relationships between sets of COVID 19 data.
This project will help develop students' skills on creating and implementing a survey. They will then use the survey data to create confidence intervals and analyze the data.
