This is a novel study for "Save Me a Seat," the wonderful and inspiring story by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan. I use the novel in my fifth grade class to educate about accepting differences and dealing with bullies. This product includes: a prereading writing activity, character traits page, comprehension pages - some have graphic organizers, compare and contrast activities, figurative language recording sheet, text connections page, and an answer key.

Sophia's War is an intriguing novel that is set during the American Revolution. It is told from the point of view of the main character, Sophia. After the death of her brother, at the hands of the British, she vows to avenge his death. For every 5-6 chapters, there is a list of vocabulary and definitions, and a vocabulary practice page. For each section, there are comprehension questions and a literacy skill, such as cause/effect, character analysis, main idea and details, etc.

This product was made in the same style as the written expression section of the Iowa Assessment. Students have to identify which line contains a word usage error or select, "no mistakes." I use this to give my fifth graders some extra practice before testing. Please also look for my capitalization and punctuation practice.

There are 34 practice items where students have to identify which line contains a synonym or a brief definition of the underlined vocabulary word. This is a final assessment for the novel, "Save Me a Seat," by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan. This novel study includes activities for each chapter including: reading for details, context clues, cause/effect, making inferences, visualization, character traits, and sequencing.

I teach in a Catholic school, and I use this cut and paste activity to reinforce the meanings of The Four Marks of the Church. Students cut out the pictures and descriptions and match them with each of the Four Marks of the Church. I have my students glue each item onto a large piece of construction paper.
