The book, Escaping the Giant Wave, is filled with figurative language. This activity is great to have students find and identify the figurative language within the text, determine the figurative and literal meanings, and determine what it helps the reader to understand. This can be used while reading the text, or as a project to be completed after reading the book.

For all the March Madness fans! Just in time for testing, this set of slides includes task cards to review using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. This product includes 12 task cards, a recording sheet, and an answer key!

This chart gives ideas for monthly class behavior challenges. Students win a reward at the end of the month for good behavior. Each month can be edited to fit your students. Some months have visuals to help out with an idea that I have used before. My students loved these challenges!

This product could be used in a reading class to use as a short research project, or in science when teaching about the Sun and moon! The slides include an interactive link to the NASA website for students to research the solar eclipse!

If you are teaching a unit on natural disasters, this is a great activity to introduce some of the natural disasters by having students do a little research of their own. In this activity, they define, sketch, and determine key characteristics for eight natural disasters.
