Rainforest themed research project- create a book with your class with different rainforest related topics! If you are in a district that teaches with the EL curriculum, this could be possibly supplemented in the second module for 5th grade!

The book, Escaping the Giant Wave, is filled with figurative language. This activity is great to have students find and identify the figurative language within the text, determine the figurative and literal meanings, and determine what it helps the reader to understand. This can be used while reading the text, or as a project to be completed after reading the book.
