This is editable so you can modify it to fit your needs. It has guidelines and a rubric as well as a list of aphorisms from the novel. In addition, linked right on the doc is a template of a Google Slides presentation I made as a sample and another that students can make a copy of to use as a template for themselves if you choose to do the assignment digitally versus on paper. All portions are editable for you so you can modify the directions to meet your needs.
There are 4 thematic concepts represented: home, ethnic ideas and aspirations, neighborhood, and name/language. For each theme, there are questions for vignettes form House on Mango Street for students to read and songs from In the Heights to listen to as a comparison. There is also a groupwork breakdown so you can assign students to groups for presentations. All portions are editable so you can modify them to meet your instructional goals.
This is a project assignment sheet and rubric to culminate the ideal school unit. Note: other materials are also available on my TpT store. This is editable so you can modify it to suit your needs!
