In this great, low-prep activity, students can create their own simple optical illusions. They will learn about the principle of persistence of vision, which is what early animation was based on! This worksheet is great for an overview of transcription and translation. The first portion reviews how mRNA is made from DNA and allows the students to create mRNA from a template DNA strand. The second part utilizes the codon wheel to translate mRNA into protein. The last portion reviews both skill sets, from DNA to amino acid chain. It can easily be modified by filling in some of the bases/codons to get the students started on the right foot! Answer key is included.
This is a Taboo-style review game designed for biology students. It contains 30 game cards on 4 pages- I recommend printing on card stock. It also includes rules and an optional extension activity that can be used for a follow-up or homework assignment. The extension activity can easily be tiered by adjusting the number of problems or the number of "taboo" words the students have to select. Great to use before a test, final exam, or the NJBCT (or similar end of course exam)!
Challenge your students to be innovative! This multi-day project is great for either STEM programs, gifted and talented programs, or even young entrepreneur clubs. Students will be tasked with improving upon a product that already exists. They will do market research, then create a prototype and commercial to "sell" their final product.
