Students hate peer review because it intimidates them. They don't have a degree in English & have no idea what to look for. This checklist for MLA style research essays streamlines the peer review process. It can also be used as a writer's personal checklist (without a peer).

This assignment has two parts: written & arts integration/presentation. You can have students do both parts or have students choose, embedding options & remediation. Part 1: Students write an analysis of symbols in Zora Neale Hurston's "Sweat" Part 2: Students create their own symbol to add to the story & present their product. There is a rubric as well.
