About the store
Graduate from OISE in Toronto, Ontario in 2012, I am currently taking a break from teaching full-time as I go back to school for Graphic Design, working as a supply teacher part-time. I've taught quite the variety of courses in English, Career Studies, Business, and World History in mainstream classrooms, summer school (both in-class and online), as well as for adults online ranging from Intermediate to Senior levels. My passion for teaching really lies in creating both organizational resources for myself and other teachers, as well as engaging activities and lessons for my students. I have recently decided to return to school for Graphic Design so that I can continue to pursue my interest in developing exciting educational resources for teachers and students.

DIGITAL LITERACY - Personal Branding & LinkedIn LESSON (Distance Learning)

Serving as both a lesson on digital literacy and the importance of presenting yourself professionally online for future employers, this quick lesson allows students to begin thinking about how they are perceived online and ways to shape that perception to their own benefit. Resources are provided as a Google Slide file that guides students through the lesson. It begins with a discussion surrounding what 'Personal Branding' is and what it means to create your own 'Digital Footprint' before going

DIGITAL LITERACY - Google App Org. & File Management LESSON (Distance Learning)

This is a lesson that I use at the very beginning of my Information and Communication Technology for Business (BTT) course as the curriculum requires students to be able to use organizational resources effectively, and since I use a lot of Google Apps in this course, it ended up focusing on how to organize files and folders within Google Drive. It is designed as a "follow-along" lesson that gets students to complete the steps as they are being taught, with a device/computer in front of them; thi

As a fun way to discuss search engines in a digital literacy unit, students get to explore 'Google Trends' in an engaging lesson and interactive activity that appeals to their own school and specific interests. Resources are provided as a Google Slide file that guides students through the lesson. To introduce the topic, two videos are integrated into the slideshow that shows two of Google's 'Year in Search' videos that identifies the most "searched" items in a particular year. This slideshow inc

CAREER EDUCATION - SMART Goal Setting ACTIVITY (Distance Learning)

This is a lesson that I use in a variety of courses, but primarily in my Career Studies (GLC) course as the curriculum requires students to learn about goal setting for a variety of different purposes. It is designed as a "follow-along" lesson with corresponding activity, with the optional feature of teaching students how to take notes during the lesson itself, with a device/computer in front of them as this course is often taught in a computer lab. Resources are provided as a Google Slide file

DIGITAL LITERACY - Introduction & Google Safety Roadshow (Distance Learning)

As a great way to introduce the concept of 'Digital Literacy' and what it means to be a responsible 'digital citizen', students get to participate in an engaging lesson that not only covers these topics but also opens up a discussion about what it means to be safe and responsible while being online. Throughout the lesson are prompting questions and short activities that allow students to take in what they have learned and apply their understanding to their own personal experiences. It also inclu

EIF Test for Ontario Curriculum - ENG1P/ENG1D

When discussing the process of 'Backwards Design', Wiggins and McTighe stress the importance for educators to "begin with the end in mind" when planning their courses. In doing so, they are encouraged to first identify the desired results of the learning by deciding which curriculum expectations are considered to be 'enduring' understandings for students, ones that are 'important' to know and do, or whether they need only be 'familiar' with them, to assist in narrowing the focus of the learning

FIRST DAY - Backpack/Mobile Device Scavenger Hunt ACTIVITY

Inspiration for this "intro" activity was taken from a popular game used during Bridal and Baby Showers where party guests were required to look in their purses/bags for certain items like tissues, lip balm, or a phone. I wanted a fun way to engage students on the first day of class that would get them to work together and be rewarded for coming to class prepared, so I've adapted this idea for a classroom setting where students get points for each school-related item they have with them. I also

I have recently decided to return to school for Graphic Design so that I can continue to pursue my interest in developing exciting educational resources for teachers and students.

Teaching style

I exercise a fairly laid-back and easy-going approach with my students while at the same time still maintaining myself as an approachable authority figure in the classroom. I've recently been teaching a lot of Career Planning courses which has allowed me to work more one-on-one with students to help them develop their own plans for their futures, which has allowed me the opportunity to make even more connections with my students.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in English (Economics minor) from McMaster University, and my Bachelor of Education degree in Intermediate/Senior English and Economics from OISE | University of Toronto. Since then, I have completed several AQ course including Junior Division, Intermediate History, Teaching Students with Communication Needs - Learning Disabilities, and Guidance - Part 1. I am currently enrolled in the Fast-Track Graphic Design program at Mohawk College.

Additional biographical information

In the past, I have spent a lot of time scoring and preparing students for the OSSLT, and know the test inside-and-out having been deemed a high-validity scorer during both the years that I scored the test. This helps me a great deal when preparing students for this test because I know exactly what scorers will be looking for in the students' responses.
