Properties of Parabolas - Coloring Activity

Created by
Ms Mathematist
This coloring activity is based on having to find the vertex, y-intercept, and axis of symmetry of different parabolas. Each answer corresponds to a box in the picture to then be colored and form a mystery picture. The picture of the coloring page is from coloringsquared.com. I have created the Algebra worksheet to go along with the free coloring page.

This game involves picking a turkey (works by tapping on the smart board or using a koosh ball) and the screen changes to a trig identity problem or a “stuffing treat". When I played this in my classroom, I gave 100 points to all teams who got the simplifying trig questions correct. For the “stuffing treat" slides, I gave a Thanksgiving trivia question and the teams who got it right were awarded the "treat" points. The turkeys disappear as you click through them. To get back to the turkey home

This activity consists of 18 problems where students match up the answer to each problem in the corresponding column. Students must use trigonometric identities including reciprocal, quotient, Pythagorean, and Double Angle identities to simplify each problem. Once finished, there will be three problem numbers in each column (to fill the whole chart). I really like this activity in my classroom because it's somewhat "self-checking". Students are able to realize they did something wrong if they di

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching Secondary Mathematics for seven years now. 1 year at the middle school level and 6 years at the high school level. I currently teach/have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Computer Mathematics, Algebra Functions and Data Analysis, Trigonometry, PreCalculus, IB Math, and Calculus.

Teaching style

I prefer to teach with Power Points and Slot Notes. Throughout the notes I provide "You Try's" for the students, to break up the monotony of a lesson. After a lesson I'll usually do some form of activity to get the kids to practice what they have just learned.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Education from East Tennessee State University. I also have a Master's Degree in Mathematics Education from Radford University.

Additional biographical information

I am certified to teach in the state of Virginia.
