Children brainstorm what they would spend $100 on. It is actually a great money lesson as they are able to learn what costs more or less than $100 and how much they could actually buy with a $100 dollar bill.
We studied endangered animals so this could be edited for a different topic but teaches children how to plan what information they want to included while writing an essay, or for us it was just a book in first grade! This way they knew what they wanted to display on each page.
I have been doing morning centers with my first graders for 6 years now. One of the centers is "Brain Stretcher" which I use as a time to create some review about what we have learned during the previous week. It helps students with reading, writing, math, and following directions.
Students chose animals that lived "in our backyard" or locally and checked out books in the library for each one. Students researched the animals and recorded facts. After finding all necessary information, students created Google Slides or a paperback book to share the information with their peers. We all learned something new!
Use this activity for children to match pictures or descriptions to new vocabulary words on many different subjects. This also allows students to practice using scissors, clue, and organizational skills.

This could be something you use in the classroom independently or in teams. This could also be an assignment for home where students identify and build with 3d shapes and then record what they have created, take a photo, or bring it in to share with the class!
Create goals for your students with these cards. Tape them to a writing folder in a ziplock bag so they are reminded of uppercase/lowercase letters, punctuation, etc.
From different Raz-Kids books, ex) Goodbye Snow, I created comprehension questions that correspond to the book that we worked on in guided reading books. There is also an option/space for an illustration to create connections to the text.
In the mornings, first graders would draw or choose and emoji that expressed how they were feeling. Once in awhile we would use this to document their feeling in a journal, or to share them with the class. Many wonderful discussions came from this!
