Ms. Wait's Fun in 5th

I have been in a teacher in Minnesota for over 20 years. I started teaching special education at the middle school level (6th-8th grades), with most of the experience being in 6th grade. Then I moved to the elementary level where I continued to teach special education for 4th and 5th graders. Now, I am a general education teacher, who teaches 5th grade full time.

My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate a lot of visuals to go along with the auditory piece of instruction. I love to have students work in groups, yet also want students to be able to work independently as well. I also want to make sure I can meet all the needs of the students in my classroom. From the special education student, to the general education student, to the gifted student, they all are part of our learning community and should get their needs met.

Nominated twice for inclusive teacher of the year. Nominated once for teacher of the year in our district. I have been on our district literacy committee, student leadership team, and have had many student teachers in my classroom.

As a seasoned educator with over two decades of experience in Minnesota, spanning from special education to general education, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of effective, easy-to-use resources in the classroom. My journey through teaching diverse groups of students has equipped me with valuable insights into creating materials that not only engage learners but also seamlessly integrate with the curriculum. One of the main challenges teachers face is finding resources that are both quick to implement and aligned with state and national standards. To address this, I have designed a series of resources that caters specifically to the needs of 5th graders. These resources include a variety of activities, such as interactive worksheets, anchor charts, and formative assessments that are all meticulously crafted to enhance student understanding and retention. Each resource is accompanied by clear instructions and can be easily adapted to suit different classroom dynamics and learning styles. Moreover, collaboration with fellow educators has been a cornerstone of my approach. By sharing these resources and gathering feedback, I ensure that they remain relevant and effective. My aim is to provide tools that not only simplify the planning process for teachers but also enrich the educational experience for students. Through this collaborative effort, we can create a supportive and innovative learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
