Calculate Your Weight on Other Planets

Students learn to convert their weight from pounds to their mass in kilograms, then take that number and convert it to their weight in Newtons on the moon and the planets. This worksheet pushes students to organize their conversion calculations and to make connections between their calculations and the effect of changes in gravity. For the best use of this product, check out my Unit2Day2 PowerPoint! http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Unit2Day2-Gravity-and-Weight-864810 TN Science Stan

Test Tracker

I use this test tracker after every unit test to help my students see their strengths and weaknesses for each learning goal and compare their scores to the overall class average. This is an excellent tool for content classes, but it can be adapted for any subject area. The tracker is very visual and helps students practice their graphing skills which is beneficial for all subjects. I update this template after each unit to ensure that students are graphing the correct learning goals. It's easy t

Compare and Contrast Gravity vs. Antigravity

This is a graphic organizer that I specifically use with my Unit 2 Lesson 1 PowerPoint. However, it can be adapted to fit several different lessons, and it aligns to common core standards for Science and Technical Subjects if used in concert with informational text. This graphic organizer is simple enough for ELL students but can be used in any classroom setting. About the store

Experience

I taught science in Title I schools with large ELL populations for 6 years, then transitioned into administration for 3. I taught at the middle school level (7th & 8th grade) for four years, and then was as a high school biology and chemistry teacher for two.

Teaching style

I had a relatively structured method of teaching so that I was able to keep my students organized and on track; however, I would always strive to keep my lessons interesting, visual, and somewhat quirky. I used to break the science standards into units that lasted anywhere from three to four weeks on a block schedule. I gave a summative assessment at the end of every unit, which students would track individually and as a class. Students were aware of their progress at all times and they were able to link their strengths and weaknesses directly to specific content standards or learning goals. My classes were almost entirely made up of English Language Learners, so a lot of what I do is very visual and clear. I tried to make my lessons as hands-on as possible, but I also strongly believed in good old-fashioned note-taking. My students keep up with their "Cornell Note Journals" and are able to reference them all year long.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I consistently received very high growth scores, and I truly believe it has everything to do with my structured lessons and differentiated instruction. I also owe the vast majority of my success to my mentor teachers. They were fantastic, and I wouldn't be where I am today without them!

My own education history

BS in Biology at Belmont University, and MEd in Instructional Practice at Lipscomb University

Additional biographical information

All of the materials that I have provided are editable when downloaded - my work is not fully devoid of mistakes. I want to be transparent in that I have uploaded my content to share, but I understand that some of it may be older versions that may require some editing. I worked incredibly hard for years, and I know how time consuming lesson planning can be! My goal is to share what I created so that others can adjust it to fit their needs.
