This was designed for level 3 English Language Learners in 6th grade but absolutely could be used with younger learners and older ELLs. It also has multiple videos embedded into it to break up the note taking. This was designed to be ELL (English Language Learner) friendly with simple context focused langauge used throughout. In this assignment students are asked to make their own flag and then explain their reasoning behind what they create. It has a brainstorming activity built into it help the stduents get their ideas out onto paper before creating their final flag. I use it as a begnign of the year activity as one way of getting to know my students. However, you could use this at any time really. Have some fun with your students before the holidays! This is a complete trivia game that highlights 10 different winter holidays around the world. The game is broken down into 5 rounds, with 10 questions in each. All answers are revealed at the end of each round. These word wall slides come in 5 different languages! They have English, Spanish (red), Portuguese (green), Haitian Creole (blue), and French (purple). All of the words in this deck have a central theme of natural forces, specifically hurricanes, volcanoes, and earthquakes. There are 24 word cards in total each including: the definition, the main word in all five languages, a picture, and an example sentence!
This activity was designed for a newcomers' social studies class. The students in this class are learning English but all have a home language that is either Spanish or Portuguese.
