In this double lesson, students apply for virtual classroom employee jobs! After applying for jobs, the class also co-creates classroom agreements or norms. The employee jobs include an attendance clerk, tech manager, and class manager. The slides also show both Google Classroom Assignments I created to go along with each lesson. This is about 100 minutes of virtual class time and is a great way to start the year!

An introduction to plot google slide deck. Slide deck starts with an introduction to plot then has a model of how to do a plot diagram/chart using a fable. After the model, there is a guided practice for the class to do together with the fable "The Elephant and the Tiger." Finally, students watch the Pixar short "Big Buck Bunny" write down main events and then create a plot diagram for the movie.

This presentation includes a description of the classroom employees, an employee application, and a paycheck given to chosen employees. The employee slides have a description of each role (TA, Circulation Director, Host, Room Manager, and Technology Director). Students fill out the application for their first choice job. Employees who are chosen are given a paycheck for their 6 weeks of employment. The teacher can sign each box which represents a day. A payscale is at the bottom of the paycheck

This is a vocabulary activity for the teleplay "All Summer in a Day." Students practice predicting the vocabulary word in context which is a common core standard and then identify the clues that helped them to determine the meaning of the word. After making their prediction and citing the clues that helped them to reach their prediction, students look up the word in the dictionary and put the definition in their own words.
