Using the it says, I say, and so discussion protocol students will analyze controversial laws around the world as a pre-novel activity. Student's will read the law, explain it in their own words including possible benefits, and then decide if they agree or disagree with the law.
This worksheet allows students to organize their evidence from the text to support their understanding of the mood. The 2nd page gives them some mood words to use as a reference.
I use this as a resource to prioritize which students need the most help during writing periods. Student's fill out the form and drop it in the conference corner.
