This is a graphic organizer that will assist students in writing an essay in response to a non-fiction article. It asks them to restate the topic sentence, provide a reason and textual evidence and a closing statement. This organizer is for a one paragraph essay, which I suggest be used first to teach them the strategy. After that, a 2-3 paragraph essay can be written using the organizer by adding more reasons and evidence. This is in word for easy editing.

This graphic organizer gives students space to draw their mental pictures. Students then transfer their pictures to writing.
