This worked great with Building Thinking Classroom practices, especially with students who are familiar with writing equations from visual patterns. I've personally used it with advanced 6th graders and 7th graders. A detailed answer key and questions
Card sort matching fraction multiplication problems to various visual representations and verbal descriptions. The recording sheet and follow up reflection questions ask students to sort the problems into expressions where the product is less than both factors, less than one and greater than the other, and greater than both factors and generalize when each happens. Check out my other card sorts focused on connecting visual representations and algebraic/numeric expressions. Properties of Operati
I use this quiz as a first introduction to a Criterion D assessment. Prior to this we have class discussions about what it means to explain the accuracy and determine whether an answer makes sense in the context. When I give the quizzes back, I go through these examples to help students better understand what it means to explain the accuracy and determine whether an answer makes sense in the context. Includes bonus challenge question.
