Last year of working from home/hybrid due to Covid-19, I focused on connecting with my students personally and in silly ways rather than always focusing on the math content. Experience

I am in my 8th year of teaching. I spent 5 years at an all-girls private school in California, and now am in my 3rd year at a private school in Washington. I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Geometry, and am now taking on Precalculus and Honors Precalculus. It is the best feeling when a student who has never really liked math starts to get it and enjoy themselves in my class. Last year of working from home/hybrid due to Covid-19, I focused on connecting with my students personally and in silly ways rather than always focusing on the math content. I just want to have fun in the classes I teach and keep things positive! This year, as we are in person, I recognize that my students have had a very tough few years and their learning has been impacted. I still love to give them digital products even though we are in person because it helps keep them engaged and they love my pixel art puzzles!

Teaching style

I love getting my students out of their seats, implementing fun activities/review games and taking time to re-explain processes that make them get that "aha!" moment. I really enjoy the flipped classroom style where I have students watch videos for homework and then we can do an activity in class. This is my favorite style because I can see where my students' understanding is and I get to connect with each student every day. I have found this approach to be successful in Covid times because when students are quarantining or sick, they can still watch videos at home and come to class a few days later prepared to practice the material. Some of my favorite activities I do are scavenger hunts, mazes, mathlibs, drag and drop digital activities, task cards with QR scanners, and Quizizz online (my new replacement for Kahoot)! I also really enjoy checking for student understanding with Forms online!

My own education history

I attended college at the University of San Diego where I received my BA in Mathematics with a Secondary Education Emphasis. I also have my California Clear Credential.

Additional biographical information

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, went to college in San Diego, and now live in Seattle! I love to travel to different places in the summer and visit with my family in Denver. I am a "Covid-19" bride who had to postpone her wedding from 2020 to 2021. We were so fortunate to be able to have a safe wedding in Summer of 2021 and celebrate with our loved ones. I love to swim, dance, and go for walks around my neighborhood, especially when they are with a dog! I also love Tiktok and Instagram. Teacher Tiktok and Instagram is where I learn a lot of valuable teaching tricks!
