This simple project allows students to research a country of their choice (either one that interests them or one connected to their heritage). The sheets include a note to parents, a place to record their findings and an assessment piece for the teacher. Students conduct research at home with the help of their parents (or at school) and must put together a presentation on a Bristol board to teach their peers. My class loved this!!
I use this assignment to wrap up my global communities unit is social studies. We spend time learning about how other students live and go to school. I then have my students write a letter about what school is like for them. In this letter writing task, I've included a simple checklist and guiding questions. For struggling students, I've included a fill-in-the-blank template. Students can then draw a picture and write a good copy on the pages provided.
