Teaching style
We both use the Balanced Literacy style of teaching. I am a proponent of Guided Reading and the Write Traits. I employ learning stations in my classroom to help individualize the curriculum. The curriculum guides, not the textbooks, are the basis for my lesson plans.
Assessment for Learning, a concept developed by Anne Davies, is paramount in all of our resources. The use of portfolios and holistic assessment is evident in the activities we include in our lesson plans. The curriculum standards for each resource is identical to that of the specific province or state for which it is written.
