Teaching style

My teaching style is rooted in creativity, engagement, and hands-on learning. With experience teaching pre-K through 3rd grade music and 6th through 12th grade band, I believe in adapting my approach to meet the unique needs of each age group while maintaining a fun, interactive, and educational environment. For younger students, I focus on fostering a love for music through play-based activities, movement, and exploration. I use Orff instruments, creative music games, and interactive lessons to help students build foundational skills while having fun. For older students, particularly in band, I emphasize the importance of discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. My teaching is centered on developing technical skills, musicality, and a deeper understanding of music theory, while still keeping things dynamic and engaging. Whether through ensemble performances, individual practice, or creative composition projects, I encourage my students to express themselves and grow as musicians. Ultimately, my goal is to make music a joyful experience for every student, helping them find their own voice while building the confidence and skills to succeed.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teacher of the Month in my first month teaching elementary music, recognized for creating an engaging and inspiring learning environment for students. As a band director, I led my bands to consistent success at various competitions, earning first division ratings in prestigious contests such as the Texas UIL Marching Band Contests, Concert & Sight Reading Contests, and Solo & Ensemble Contests. Worked closely with numerous students who earned All Region band placements and advanced to regional, area, and even state levels, showcasing their growth and talent. Collaborated with a dedicated team of educators to cultivate an environment of musical excellence and achievement across all band programs.

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts in Music Education Stephen F. Austin State University Graduated with a focus on both general and instrumental music education. My studies provided me with a strong foundation in music theory, pedagogy, and performance, preparing me to teach students of all ages and skill levels. At SFA, I had the opportunity to work with talented faculty, participate in ensembles, and gain hands-on experience in a variety of music education settings, which laid the groundwork for my teaching career.
