About the store
Welcome to Nature & Knowledge! My name is Sydney Vanier, and I have worked in the school system for the past five years, with three years of teaching experience. I began my career teaching all subjects in a combined 5th/6th-grade classroom in rural Vermont, and I now teach 5th-grade science and social studies. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that learning should be both engaging and calming, giving students space to think, explore, and grow. I strive to connect my students to the world around them—whether that’s through hands-on science investigations, exploring local history, or drawing inspiration from the outdoors. I believe that nature offers endless opportunities for discovery, creativity, and problem-solving, and I aim to foster a deep appreciation for it alongside strong academic skills. My goal is to help students not only gain knowledge but also develop curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

Teaching style

My teaching style is centered on building strong, authentic relationships with my students and creating a supportive classroom community. I believe that learning flourishes when students feel safe, valued, and respected. By taking the time to know each student as an individual, I can tailor lessons to their interests, strengths, and needs. I prioritize collaboration, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning while supporting one another. This approach not only fosters academic growth but also cultivates empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

My own education history

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Childhood Education from Vermont State University – Lyndon, with endorsements in both Elementary Education and Special Education. My training has provided me with a strong foundation in creating accessible, engaging learning experiences for diverse learners. I am committed to ongoing professional growth and continue to take classes to expand my skills and knowledge. In the future, I plan to pursue a master’s degree to further deepen my expertise and enhance the learning opportunities I can provide for my students.
