Use these question while teaching the early chapter book Horrible Harry & the Dead Letters. Questions require students to prove a page number for proof that they found the answer.
Students design and create a Gingerbread House using a specified amount of money the teacher provides. Students use subtraction with regrouping to determine how much of each item they can purchase to create their Gingerbread House. Icing and Gingerbread (graham crackers) are free!!

Students keep a weekly spelling notebook. At the beginning of the week, they get their spelling words, and throughout the week they complete activities using their words. The contract they paste into their notebook at the beginning of the year provides a list of activities they can complete. On Fridays, I collect notebook, check points and give spelling tests. Here is a copy of two contracts I use throughout the year.

Chart (on half sheet = 2 x page) for students to use when completing daily fluency assignments. Students write name (or number) of passage at the top, and include the number of words read and number of errors. As students read the same passage throughout the week, they see their number of words go up and errors go down! Great alternative to fluency graph.
