This is a great activity for all students but really helped my students with autism understand the calendar in an easy color coded way. The rectangle for the days of the week are yellow, the matching days are yellow, and the days at the top of the calendar are also yellow. This helps the students know what is expected to go in that place. Same goes for the month and numbers. (You can easily use a dry erase marker to make the numbers on the calendar blue as well). Students learn to decompose numbers by coloring some of the smilies one color and the rest of the smilies another color. The students then count the smilies in each color and learn what two numbers made the whole number!
