NIE research shows NIE programs nationally reach over 106,000 schools, 380,000 teachers and 14 million students each year. Participating schools show increases in language arts test scores of 10% with minority and non-English speaking students achieving exceptional increases of nearly 30%. (Source: NAA Fdn.) The NIE Institute works with hundreds of daily newspapers across America and the world providing the teachers they serve over 300 instructional resources for use with newspapers in the classroom. Doug writes most of the teacher guides and student supplements and has purchased the rights to many others to make them available to teachers as a bulk package. Teaching style

Doug's main focus is on training teachers how to use the newspaper as a teaching tool in their classroom. The daily newspaper is an incredibly useful tool for teaching literacy, language arts and social studies, but can be used in any subject area.
