I have taught art history at the post-secondary level, from community college to Ivy League University, and am now a homeschooling mother and coop Latin and History teacher.
This writing assignment works wonderfully as a term-long project in an Art Appreciation course. Students can find public art in even the smallest of towns: war Memorials, school murals, church sculptures. One student worked on the painting of a train on the side of a building, which turns out to be a genre of public art in and of itself!
AP Art History Sourcebook
For each work of art in the new AP Art History curriculum, I am creating a guide to sources for its scholarly study. Each guide will contain links to sources for the highest quality images available in open access and an annotated guide to open-access scholarly publications on the work of art, its period, its materials, its subject matter/meaning/style/context.
As I complete the "Sources for the Study" of all objects in each content area, I will sell them as a bundle,
