This is a great check-in to assess where students are in relation to adding and subtracting mixed fractions with like and unlike denominators. This also includes two open-ended questions that will help you differentiate students that truly understand this and those that are only at a computational level. There are two versions of this check-in. One version of it contains a rubric for Levels 1 to 4, and another one has a rubric for approaching, getting there, and got it. I have also included an a

Fun and engaging 3D class challenge!

Super fun and engaging 3D class challenge. The goal is to get students comfortable working with 3D software (such as Tinkercad) and allowing them to create something as a community. One of the amazing parts about this is at the end of each year you end up with a new class chess set that you can either give away to students, or keep to inspire the next group of students that you are working with. My students absolutely loved this project and couldn't wait to vote on the winners and for the class

I have created an introduction to fractions lesson that has a slideshow that will be used in conjunction with a hands on activity and a ticket out the door. I have found that many lessons are language heavy and have decided to create a math lesson that is not as reliant on language to succeed.

I have created an independent reading activity that includes questions as well as a marking rubric underneath each question. This booklet touches on predictions, justifying predictions, reflecting, retells, and character traits. This booklet is an excellent resource for any teacher looking for some guiding questions and some marking rubrics to go with them.

Additional biographical information

Just like you I am often at a loss for how to get through to my students and how to teach what is essentially ends up as multiple grades at once while dealing with a wide range of needs within the classroom. I like to mix up my lessons and have them work in a variety of group settings. My lessons come with slide shows that you can choose to follow (or print out and put under the document scanner) or you can just use them as a guide for the lessons. I also make sure to include a rubric with every assessment. If you ever find an error please let me know. Thanks for stopping by!
