Design Your Own City! Surface Area and Volume Project
My students absolutely loved this project. It gives them a chance to practice calculating volume and surface area of a variety of shapes (some given to them, others they can choose) while working in a 3D environment. Perhaps the biggest draw for my students was that they actually get to design their own city. This was definitely the biggest draw for them in regards to this project. This project can take a fair bit of time, but because it is so engaging I found that the students were on task for

Grades 7/8 Coding Assignment
This is great coding assignment for grade 7/8 students. I recommend using Scratch for students to create the finished product. Included is a breakdown of the assignment, some extension options, a rubric, and some helpful hints for anyone that is new to teaching coding.

Best Value In Town-Area of Circles and Unit Rate Asssignment
This is a fun and engaging area of circles assignment for students. They get a chance to do some research on their favourite pizza restaurants and then compare some prices while calculating area and unit prices. My students love this assignment because they are always arguing about who has the best pizza in town and now they get a chance to compare them mathematically. This assignment also aligns with the Ontario Grade 7 math curriculum.

The Great Financial Challenge

Fun and engaging surface area and volume activity!
This is a super fun scavenger hunt activity to get your students up and moving. I find that this is a great opportunity for them to work on using what they have learned about calculating surface area and volume in a real world setting. The desk dilemma is also a hit with my students. I have found that they get really invested in finding out about the items that they use on a daily basis. There are two versions of this problem. One with inches and one with centimeters. This version has inches.

Circles - Circumference and Area Assessment/Test. Grades 6-8
This is a great assessment for when you are finished teaching circumference and area of circles. It has levelled questions in order to check the depth of your students understanding. Fun and engaging 3D class challenge!
Super fun and engaging 3D class challenge. The goal is to get students comfortable working with 3D software (such as Tinkercad) and allowing them to create something as a community. One of the amazing parts about this is at the end of each year you end up with a new class chess set that you can either give away to students, or keep to inspire the next group of students that you are working with. Financial Literacy Check-In
This is a quick check-in for financial literacy. It includes questions regarding various bank accounts that exist, as well as the advantages and disadvantages. It also includes a section on comparing simple vs compound interest. I have also included a rubric as well as a section where students can share any additional information that they may have.

Volume (Prisms) Quiz/Check-In
This is a great check in for students studying the volume of various prisms. It has a rubric included with it as well as an answer key. Additional biographical information
Just like you I am often at a loss for how to get through to my students and how to teach what is essentially ends up as multiple grades at once while dealing with a wide range of needs within the classroom. I like to mix up my lessons and have them work in a variety of group settings. My lessons come with slide shows that you can choose to follow (or print out and put under the document scanner) or you can just use them as a guide for the lessons.
