This is a great fictional case study of a murder (or was it?) in the old west. Students will use several dating techniques to help solve the mystery. Claim - Evidence - ReasoningStudents will read a fictitious example of a student trying to identify a mineral but they made some mistakes! Students will read several scenarios and determine what steps the student did wrong in correctly identifying the mineral. Students will then defend their answers in a CER style written format. “Cartographer’s in Action”You are a cartographer (a map maker) who has created a topographic map for a newly discovered piece of land. Contractors for a residential housing company have decided they want to build on this land. Your job is to prove to these contractors that the landscape is not suitable for building houses.  I will also include an ELL version with different vocabulary for free!

Tarsia puzzle - Latitude and Longitude using ESRT You can simply enter text, print, and cut. You can either use the smaller version or the bigger version (i.e. 16 individual triangles). Tarsia Puzzles are a great activity for test reviews and can be glued into interactive notebooks. If you choose to use the puzzle pieces multiple times (e.g. for different classrooms), you can laminate the cards so you can use them for years to come!
