About the store
My name is Julie and I am a teacher in the state of New York. I began subbing as soon as I graduated high school and realized I enjoyed being in the classroom. After completing my associates degree, I decided I wanted to become a high school teacher and choose math as my discipline. I did my student teaching at a district close to my hometown and they hired me right out of college. I was hired for the 2013-2014 school year as the only Algebra 1 teacher in the district, which was the very first year of Common Core. Despite the fact that I was a first year teacher with hardly any resources to speak of, I studied the standards, created engaging content from scratch and was able to get the majority of my students to pass! Over the course of my 9 year career, I have worked at almost every grade level in 7-12 math, which has allowed me to really understand this subject area and how each year of content relates to the next. I’ve created numerous worksheets, projects and activities over the years to differentiate the content for the wide variety of learners I have encountered over the years, and I want to share the content that I’ve created with anyone who needs it!

Guided Notes Simplifying Expressions (with Distributive Property)

Guided notes with two examples walking students through the steps of simplifying an expression using the distributive property and combining like terms. This can be done as a teacher led activity or as an independent activity depending on your students' ability to simplify expressions. If you'd like to have students work on this independently and they need a tutorial, here is a video I created that can be used to help students complete this worksheet on their own: How to Simplify an Expression

Identifying Like Terms Worksheet

Many of my students needed to review how to identify like terms. This worksheet will allow your students to practice identifying like terms in isolation without having to worry about combining them. The last page of the worksheet consists of 3 vocabulary review questions. Students have to identify the parts of an expression including the coefficient, variable, constant and number of terms. I have used this worksheet in my 7th and 8th grade math classes as well as Algebra 1 as review worksheet
