About the store
Educator with 17 years of experience, primarily in classical, Christian schools, as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and academic leader, with a passion for strong foundational literacy skills. Most recently, I spent 11 years in classical, Christian schools, primarily teaching first grade, while also serving in a school-based reading specialist role and later moving into administrative leadership as Grammar School Director of Curriculum & Instruction and K–12 Director of Academics. Earlier in my career, I taught in public schools, which gave me additional perspective on diverse classroom settings and instructional approaches. My work in literacy has been shaped in part by training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction, a method I value for its structured, explicit, and multisensory design that supports all learners, including students with diagnosed learning differences. While I am not OG-certified, my instruction and materials are informed by this training and years of classroom and intervention experience. During my time in school leadership, I developed and led a reading support program designed to serve struggling readers, providing targeted instruction alongside core classroom teaching. Students in this program experienced consistent growth and success, with progress supported by formal educational assessments conducted by psychologists. In addition to my work within schools, I have also provided reading tutoring outside of the school setting. Throughout my career, I became a go-to resource for literacy instruction and intervention—supporting teachers with instructional planning, observing and coaching in classrooms, modeling effective literacy lessons, and providing professional development for grammar school faculty. I also regularly led parent-equipping sessions to help families understand how literacy skills are taught and how best to support children at home. I am now in a new season, stepping away from a full-time role in education, with a renewed passion to share what I have learned through thoughtfully designed literacy resources for teachers, homeschool educators, and parents.

Teaching style

My teaching style is rooted in purposeful, research-informed literacy instruction—particularly in the areas of phonemic awareness, decoding, and encoding. I believe strong foundational skills are essential for long-term reading success, and instruction should be explicit, systematic, and developmentally appropriate. My approach is strongly influenced by principles aligned with the Orton-Gillingham method, emphasizing clarity, structure, and intentional practice that enables a wide range of learners to succeed. I value materials that are engaging and visually appealing without being distracting, professional rather than cutesy, and always focused on meaningful instructional goals. Visual appeal supports learning; it is never the primary purpose. I am mindful of the needs of teachers working in academically rigorous settings while also ensuring resources remain practical and accessible for any classroom or home environment. Oak & Scroll Literacy resources are intentionally designed to make word structure visible while keeping letterforms central to instruction. Color, grayscale, and layout choices are chosen purposefully to support decoding, reduce cognitive load, and preserve clarity across print settings. Low-prep design is a priority. Teachers and parents should be able to focus on teaching and supporting students—not on assembling materials. My work reflects a deep respect for the time, responsibility, and trust placed in educators and families who are shaping young readers.
