About the store
Obsessed with Learning is a mother/daughter teaching duo and content creators. Tami Parker, the mother of the duo, has 34 years of experience in education. "I feel I have done it all, from a Paraprofessional to a Classroom Teacher for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades to a Librarian/Media Specialist, as well as a Technology Innovator and Workshop Presenter. Being a Librarian/Media Specialist has to be the best job of them all. What better career is there than being surrounded by shelves and shelves of books and a mini-computer lab all day?" Billie-Jean, the duo's daughter, has 14 years of classroom experience ranging from teaching elementary to middle and high school English. She now homeschools her two children while running Obsessed with Learning from home. She continues to teach part-time Creative Writing classes.

Experience

Obsessed with Learning is a mother/daughter teaching duo and content creators. Tami Parker, the mother of the duo, has 34 years of experience in education. Teaching style

Tami: I believe in meeting the current needs my students have, and currently, my students crave technology. My desire is to bring the world of Literature to the modern world of technology for an awesome friendship to emerge. Billie-Jean: My passion is to create a love for reading in students by merging Project-Based Learning with Literature Units. I have always been a hands-on teacher and love to carry that throughout novel units. I believe students learn best through hands-on experiences.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Tami: Teacher of the Year 2019 Maple Lane Elementary School. In addition, my shining teacher moments would have to be teaching my fellow teachers technology tips through workshops during and after school. However, I believe my best shining moment had to be when our superintendent for my district visited my classroom for an afternoon to see and participate in the technology I incorporate daily in the hands of my students. The students were so proud of themselves and the knowledge they shared. They loved teaching "their principal's boss" how to use response system clickers, IPads, and our SMART Board. Billie-Jean: My best moments in the classroom were when I could reach struggling students and turn them into fluent readers and flourishing writers.

My own education history

Tami: I currently hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Library Science, as well as a Master’s in Instructional Technology. When I finished my Master’s in Library Science, I couldn't stop until I obtained its sister degree in Instructional Technology, which is definitely my true love. I am just a life-time learner. I just can't stop. I guess I am "Obsessed With Learning." Billie-Jean: I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in English and a Minor in Social Studies.

Additional biographical information

Tami started Obsessed with Learning in 2012 as a Teachers Pay Teachers seller. In 2017, as she saw how much of a blessing it was to other teachers, she pursued it wholeheartedly. In the summer of 2020, I (Billie-Jean) jumped on board as I saw the trends of education shifting with the introduction of virtual learning. Together, we create content, curriculum, and bulletin boards, and have so much fun. It’s been a way to join our educational experience together and also contribute to the education community beyond our careers. This last winter, we reached the first TpT milestone. We were featured in the TpT newsletter! The Lord has truly blessed us with an amazing business. It also has been a blessing from God to get to work professionally together.
