About the store
We are a father-daughter team who believe that school should be educationally rich and engaging for students. I am a recently retired teacher of 37 years. Since my first retirement, I have accepted four more term positions. Most of my teaching has been at the middle years level, although I have taught from Grade 3-10. My teaching has basically been with the core subjects of math, science, ELA, social studies, and physical education. I love teaching and it must have been evident to our three children, who have all chosen education as their careers and established themselves as excellent teachers. My daughter and business partner, Amy, specializes in ELA, music, and physical education. She is currently teaching Grade 5 in Calgary. Since retirement, I have been a K-12 substitute teacher in several schools. This has been a great experience to see many different classrooms and the uniqueness and creativity that different teachers bring to their classrooms. I have also been a faculty advisor for the University of Manitoba, Brandon University, University of Winnipeg, and Valley City State University to help supervise and mentor aspiring teachers as they work toward their Bachelor of Education degrees.

Teaching style

The feedback about my teaching style that I receive most from my colleagues is that I am very creative and organized. By carefully planning well in advance, it has helped me to have direction in what I teach and it has also allowed me to be very flexible within structure. Amy and I share similar educational values and teaching methods. We believe that students learn best when they're engaged. Because of this, we make our lessons interactive and fun. We include a lot of games and hands-on activities. We believe that healthy competition is highly motivational and deeply enhances learning.

My own education history

After graduating from high school, I attended one year at Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan. After that, I completed my Bachelor of Science and Education at Brandon University. Amy graduated from University of Manitoba with her Bachelor of Education.
