The Polar Express Sequencing Activity

The Polar Express Sequencing Activity is always a hit with my students and is a great way for them to practice their sequential skills in Language Arts.  This activity is typically done after we’ve studied the story over the course of a week, so they are very familiar with the course of events.First, have students cut out the individual events on page 1 and then tape/glue them onto each bell.  Then, taking a long strip of construction paper (about 2 feet, depending on how closely they place the

Winter Break Reading Log and Response Menu

Any time there is a break in the school year, be it Teacher’s Convention, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Spring Break, I’ve always found that my students benefit from a little at-home practice of skills we’ve touched on thus far.  While I do not make the practice packets mandatory, I try to give them an incentive to complete it (who doesn’t love choosing form the prize box?)Included in this download is a Reading Log, which requires a parent signature, as well as a Reading Menu.  This acts as a Read

Additionally, you can have your students practice conducting their first experiment using the data sheets included, as well as a blank record-keeping sheet for an

Fiction Book: Read, Roll, and Respond Center Activity

Reading centers are one of my favorite centers because it really gives me, as a teacher, a more in-depth look at my students reading ability, fluency, and comprehension.  This worksheet is to be used with Reading Fiction Comprehension Cubes, as pictured. Depending on how long your Reading centers are, students will have the opportunity to roll more than once.

Experience

In my years of teaching, I have taught 7th and 8th Grade Special Education, as well as Elementary General Education. My sweet spot is 4th grade, as that's the grade I've taught the longest (and have a soft spot for.)

Teaching style

My teaching style has always had a 'simple is best' undertone. On a personal level, I tend to get very overwhelmed/overstimulated when my classroom (and even my home) has too much going on. My products will typically be geared towards simplicity, although I do try to add color/some design for a fun pop!

Additional biographical information

I love cats (can you tell?) Actually, I haven't met an animal that I didn't want to smother with hugs! If I could have a small farm, where all of my animals just live together harmoniously and enjoy their lives, that would be a dream come true.
