This full lesson PowerPoint (with worksheet and suggested practical tasks) will allow you to teach a broad range of abilities about how to focus a microscope, why they are important and how to calculate magnification. This focuses on the basic operation of microscopes; my follow-up lesson on “Microscopes and Making Slides” gives further practical exploration. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
