This is a great review game to play with your orchestra class (or any other class - you would just have to think of new 'dares' appropriate to your class setting). Once students have learned their concert pieces, you can have some fun and play this game to get students to focus even better on their playing and work as a team. The game is simple. Divide students into teams. I divide my orchestra class by section. (1 violin, 2 violin, viola, cello/bass) Each teams picks a captain who is the sp
Need a game that involves the entire class? This one is perfect! I like to play games with my classes, but I don't like it when only a few get to participate in the fun. This game is also called reverse charades is and very easy to play. Just project the .ppt (powerpoint) slides on your screen, divide the class into 2 teams, and have teams select one person to come to the front with their backs to the screen. You show the word on the next slides and groups act out the word while the person
Students LOVE practicing rhythms with this fun tennis game. Super simple to play. Divide into 2 teams. Team 1 serves by clapping (or pizz.) the rhythm that bounces on the screen on a tennis ball. If they are correct (all team members accurately perform the rhythm), the ball moves to the next team like a tennis rally. If team 2 misses the next rhythm, team 1 gets a point. If team 2 performs the rhythm correctly, the ball moved to team 1, etc. It gets very intense when the class gets a rally go

Quick easy activity to help students focus while practicing the D scale. This is a Powerpoint with notes of the D scale. While presenting, click on a box to make a note disappear and become a rest. Students have to keep track of which notes to play while not accidentally playing during a rest. This helps students pay attention more carefully while warming up with the D scale. Great activity for helping students focus on counting. Also works well for teaching beginners tricky fingerings that

Experience
I have been teaching orchestra over 20 years. I love teaching and motivating students to fulfill their potential.
Teaching style
My teaching style is heavily influenced by the Suzuki method, but I am traditionally trained so I use many traditional techniques as well. I keep a climate of respect in my class and work to keep every student busy and working at all times.
