Direction 12 Game (A Directionality Game) Occupational Therapy

This is a game I created to help my students learn the concepts of top, bottom, left and right on a 2-D paper. It also works on counting forward in each of these directions...which is another issue many of my student struggle with. Super fun and adaptable game. Students try to move to the different 9-square zones to collect all 12 of their cards. It's difficult because one doesn't always roll the correct direction to get to the number needed. So, this works on patience too. My own husband

If you have a large class and like to do small groups, you may have some students that naturally want to follow what other students are doing and just copy their work. Having multiples of the same task but with different criteria can help address this issue and develop more independence on the part of all students. This activity works on cutting and hole punching for fine-motor skills, while developing ability to count items correctly. Have students always start hole-punching from the left side

About the store

Experience

I have been working in the schools as an occupational therapist since 1986.

Teaching style

I take a developmental approach and believe in adding increased structure and support initially so that a child experiences success and then withdrawing support as they become more capable performing the skill. It's important to me that each student has fun learning and feels confident during their sessions with me.

My own education history

I have a BS degree in OT (1986)

Additional biographical information

I have a daughter that is a COTA. We have gotten to work together this year and it has been a joy for me.
