This book contains 45 instructional strategies and sets of problems that will help students become better learners and better mathematicians. Just as rock climbing builds students' physical strength, our problems and strategies help students build up their mathematical capabilities. The book includes some unique problems an instructional strategies that we have used in our classes, ideas that other teachers have shared with us, and problems and adaptations of traditional textbook problems.

The purpose of this book is to build middle school students’ mathematical proficiencies using activities, problems, and strategies that increase the rigor in your classroom while also giving students chances to explore the mathematics they are learning in engaging ways.
