This is a resource I use that takes about 1 lesson to finish - students are presented an idea present within the text and they have to find a quote to support and explain why it does - extra credit for including a technique. This is a good scaffolded lesson that I use to really ingrain within the class the theme of superstition vs rationalism throughout the book. This is an intertextual study booklet I use with my Year 11's as a part of the Intertextual unit in the SACE curriculum. I introduce this booklet after the class has finished reading the text. The goal is to have them understand why authors, especially authors of coming-of-age stories, use intertextual references in their books to create a shared experience with the reader. This is a PowerPoint presentation that I use at the start of my Intertextual Units. It is an example of how authors use intertextuality in their texts, drawing upon the publics knowledge of these texts, to create tension and dramatic irony. It also has an activity at the end. I usually spend half a lesson on this after I introduce intertextuality.
