About the store
Hi! I'm Alexis Norrod, the teacher behind Oxymoronic. I am a first-year, high school English teacher with a background in education and literature. While new to the classroom in an official capacity, I bring years of academic training, student teaching, and curriculum design experience to my work. I’ve developed engaging lessons on identity, archetypes, and literary analysis that meet standards and connect with students on a personal level. My experience also extends beyond my own classroom. I’ve created polished, ready-to-use resources reflecting my English major training and graduate-level studies in Secondary English Education. These materials are classroom-tested with real students, designed to be practical, aesthetic, and easy to implement for other teachers.

Experience

Teaching style

My teaching style blends structure with creativity. I design lessons that balance rigorous skill-building with authentic opportunities for student expression. Rooted in my belief that education should “kindle a flame, not fill a vessel,” I work to create a classroom environment where every student feels seen, capable, and inspired to think critically. In practice, this means my classes emphasize interactive learning: students annotate, discuss, debate, and create, moving beyond memorization to real engagement with texts. I use strategies like bell ringers, Socratic discussions, and creative projects to ensure that all learners (whether outspoken OR reserved) find a way to connect to literature.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Even at the start of my teaching career, I’ve been recognized for my commitment to English studies, communication, and student engagement. As a substitute teacher, I earned a reputation for adaptability and classroom management, often being requested to return to schools where I built strong rapport with students. Now in my first year of teaching, I’ve already seen students connect deeply with literature through lessons I’ve designed on identity, archetypes, and symbolism.

My own education history

I earned my Associate of Arts in English from Georgia Highlands College in December 2023, graduating with a 3.52 GPA. While there, I served as President of the English Majors Association and contributed as a writer and editor for the student newspaper. I went on to complete my Bachelor of Arts in English at Southern New Hampshire University in June 2025, graduating with a 3.9 GPA. During my studies, I became a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Building on this foundation, I am now pursuing my Master of Arts in Secondary English Education at Western Governors University, which I began in Fall 2025. This program allows me to deepen my pedagogical knowledge while actively applying new strategies in the classroom.

Additional biographical information

Outside the classroom, I am a wife and mom to two young children, Ophelia and Cassian, who inspire much of my work and remind me daily of the power of storytelling. My family has been a driving force behind my decision to teach, pushing me to create lessons that not only meet standards but also capture imagination and foster connection. Alongside teaching, I am also a writer. My debut fantasy novel, under a pen name, is complete at 95,000 words, with sequels in progress as part of a larger series. I am actively revising and preparing the manuscript for publication. Between family life, writing, and teaching, I carry a strong sense of balance and dedication. Whether I’m designing a classroom resource, drafting a chapter, or spending time with my children, my goal is the same: to create meaningful stories and experiences that linger with people long after the final page is turned.
