My commitment to service extends far beyond the classroom walls. As a six-gallon blood donor, I regularly contribute to my community's health and well-being, modeling for my students the importance of helping others and making a positive impact in our world.
My passion for environmental conservation drives my volunteer work as a researcher with both the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Bolsa Chica Conservancy, where I document and monitor sea turtle populations. This hands-on field research not only fuels my own love of scientific inquiry but also brings authentic experiences into my classroom. When my students learn about marine ecosystems or animal adaptations, I can share real data, photographs, and stories from my conservation work, making abstract concepts tangible and meaningful.
This volunteer research reinforces my belief in experiential learning—just as I learn about sea turtle behavior through direct observation and data collection in the field, my students learn best when they can explore, investigate, and discover through their own hands-on experiences. My conservation work serves as a living example of how curiosity leads to meaningful action and lifelong learning.
