In my first grade class, we send home Monthly Student Goal sheets to build student awareness, set academic expectations, and keep parents informed about what we are learning. This useful and informative form of communication is a great highlight for Quality Review visits and effective as a parent engagement resource. Each goal sheet is given out at the beginning of each month from September through June. Academic goals are set with/for students in Reading workshop, Writing workshop, Math, Sci

Use this template for any subject/grade as you circulate and observe students' understandings. Just write in your students' names and make copies as a template. Then check the High, Medium, or Low column based on what students respond or how they performed on a task. activity, objective, skill, etc. Use the comments column for side notes. Below, write in the date under each column that you pulled students to reteach, provide enrichment, etc. Great record keeping for data, conferences, and sh

Kids make me laugh!

Teaching style

My students enjoy hands-on learning the most. Promoting process art, using Choice boards, encouraging student voice and student choice, incorporating technology such as iPads and the Smartboard keeps little ones engaged and excited about learning. I love a pop of color as an eye-opener all over the classroom without being overly-stimulating. Each year brings new creatures for studying from tadpoles, mealworms, and caterpillars to guinea pigs and hermit crabs. I believe in developing the whole child and finding the gift in all of us. I hope to make lasting memories for my students as we support each other through learning, laughing and whatever comes our way!
