A task where students model the time it will take to digitize a book as function of the number of pages using a linear equation. They then solve various problems with that equation. No algebraic solving is required. There are 30 different versions of the task so that students can work together without giving the answers away to each other. A pdf is provided including an answer key. If you want to modify the activity there is also an editable docx file which uses a mail merge from an excel fil
An introduction to linear relations using patterns. Students complete the next several terms of various linear patterns including those involving negative numbers, they are then tasked with finding the 115th term of a particular pattern. I use this as an intro to linear relations, as it creates a need to know and an understanding of how the equation of a line/arithmetic sequence works.
An activity to help get the concept of area by having students estimate the area of a variety of shapes, some of which formulas exist for and some which are very irregular. I use it as an intro to an area unit. Both an editable docx and a pdf are included.
A set of addition tables of increasing challenge. Designed as a mental math practice on adding whole numbers, concept is that students answer as many questions as they can in a time limit, questions become more challenging as they progress. A low stakes way to practice these skills. Both a pdf and a editable docx file are included.
A set of 4 problems on applying the Pythagorean Theorem. There are 70 different versions all of which are similar in design, but have different values. The idea is that students can work together and share ideas but are less likely to simply copy the work of others. Included is a pdf with all 70 versions ready to print and an excel spreadsheet which has answers including intermediate steps for each version. Simply print out how many versions you need and use the spreadsheet to help mark them. I
