Ten Digits Challenge - Middle School PDF

Created by
Pattern Press
Ten Digits Challenge is a fun activity in which three given digits are combined to create all ten digits, 0 through 9. For example, for the three digits 1, 2, 3: 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 and (2 x 3) + 1 = 7. For ages 12 and up. Solving the problems involves trying many combinations of operations and orders of numbers. This activity leads students into playing with numbers and discovering “tricks” and patterns fundamental to mathematics. Kids and adults love these challenges!

Teaching style

Hands-on, multi-sensory approaches, inquiry, and constructivist style of teaching. A child’s innate love of learning is encouraged through hands-on exploration, discovery, inventions, and the creation of models. These books are about how to think mathematically using a variety of approaches which encourage creativity and discovery of the beauty of numbers. Lessons have students build models, look for patterns, play games, make generalizations, verify and prove answers, and record discoveries in ways that make sense to them at their own individual pace. These books are a collection of lessons that will help parents, teachers, and students become better mathematicians.
