About the store

Experience

I have taught every grade from kindergarten to 10th at some point in my teaching career but my main focus has been middle school Math and Science, with 5 years at the High School level teaching Algebra 1. I've been in inner city, rural, and private schools. Currently I am in a rural school in East Tennessee teaching Math and Science. Teaching style

I want my students to be actively engaged in their learning. I don't want them copying material from textbooks or sitting in their seats all day. My goal is to have them discover what they need to know and get excited about learning. I often combine my Math and Science lessons, also throwing a bit of Geography or History when I can. I love to see students get excited and self driven. It makes them happier, more confident, and self motivated and it makes my job so much easier!!

Additional biographical information

I grew up in South Carolina, relocating to Tennessee with my husband and our 2 sons about 18 years ago. I spent time teaching in inner city as well as rural school systems with low income students. My husband and I have taken in numerous rescue dogs and have 4 wild jack russell terriers, a stately but humble german shepherd, a goofy lab, 2 great danes, and an ornery bulldog with an attitude.
