About the store

Experience

I have taught 3rd and 4th grade for 13 plus years in Mississippi and Colorado. Recently, I have changed from a full time teacher to an outreach educator at a children's Museum in Tennessee where I teach homeschool, camps, field trips, facilitate Family Engagement STEAM nights, and teach science and STEM in grades Pre-K-5th at the schools in the area. I have experience with teaching a wide variety of students including special needs and abilities and ESL.

Teaching style

My teaching style is hands-on and collaborative. I love having the kids experience things for themselves whether it's working with manipulatives, a project, science experiment, etc. It is important for me to get that AHA! moment and spark from kids. Kids learn by doing, and I like to create the best atmosphere for engagement and collaboration.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In my previous school district, I was awarded Teacher of the Month for our district and Employee of the Month for the museum I work at. Awards are great, but my favorite has been the relationships that I have built with my students. Now, as an outreach educator, I get to see the kids grow up from Pre-K to 5th grade. They are always excited for me to visit.

My own education history

During elementary, middle school, and high school, I experienced home-schooling, private school, and public school. This helped give me experience in all types of education. I attended the University of Southern Mississippi and attained my bachelor's in Elementary Education K-6. Furthermore, I have a reading endorsement for K-12 and an English endorsement for 7-12. I am currently licensed to teach in the state of Tennessee and have previously been licensed in Mississippi and Colorado. I received my Master's from the University of Colorado Boulder in Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Education and have my CLD endorsement as well.

Additional biographical information

Currently, I reside in Tennessee with my husband and pup Hermie. We love the outdoors: camping, hiking, road trips, and national and state parks. I like to cook and bake, spend time with my family and friends, and try out new things. Most recently, I have been working on dog training, learning Spanish, and just bought a Ukulele to start learning. I have also been on a health journey of late learning how to slow down, breath, and work on calming my body using Mind Body techniques.
