Hi ! Thanks for visiting Pencil Points. I have been a teacher for over 30 years and I still love teaching. I am currently teaching 4th grade. I enjoy the energy and genuine enjoyment of learning of 9 and 10 year olds. In their eyes the world is a wonderful place with much exploring to do. I've taught every grade from K - 6th and find the older elementary grades to be the best fit.

Geometry Unit for Interactive Notebooks or Not!

This is a complete elementary geometry unit that I use in my own third grade class. It has 7 lessons that allow students to learn and discover the world of Geometry. With in this unit students are asked questions in each lesson that encourage them to explore their classroom world looking for lines, angles, shapes, both 2D and 3D. They will explore congruent shapes and end with a lesson on symmetry. The last lesson is a great bridge to science as students can explore symmetry in nature. The Layou

Teaching style

My teaching style is a combination of structure and flexibility. I believe it is important to teach students to be responsible and independent within an educational environment that provides them the understanding they need to discover their own learning styles. Our school is an IB school system using and we fully implemtent the Primary Years Program totally integrating as much as the curricilumm we can. I follow the natural learning direction my students take and I'm able to teach concepts through whole group activities, group projects and hands on learning activities. I am always looking for my students to get that special "A-ha" moment when everything comes together.

My own education history

I have a Masters Degree in Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. I am trained in Reading Recovery and have a strong background in reading and writing. I have taken classes in Gifted and Talented Education, Content and Reading. I have always researched current educational trends and implemented the ones that allow children to learn openly and independently.

Additional biographical information

I have 2 wonderful children, both in college. We live with 2 miniature pinchers, and, a cat who bosses our dogs around. I am from Pittsburgh, and am a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I also enjoy the humor of Charles Schultz, the creator of the Peanuts Comics. I have a very large collection of all things Snoopy which is displayed in my classroom next to my Steelers collection. More important is I am a christian and put God before everything. I feel I am doing what he has called me to do. With him all things are possible.
